This Privacy Policy covers the use of personal data by Arewa Peoples Forum USA, a 501(c)(3) public charity based in the United States (US).

This Privacy Policy explains how information about you is collected, used and disclosed by Arewa Peoples Forum USA (“ArewaUSA“). This Privacy Policy applies to information we collect when you use our website and other online services that link to this Privacy Policy (collectively, the “Site“) or when you otherwise interact with us.

We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will notify you by revising the date at the top of the policy. We encourage you to review the Privacy Policy whenever you access the Site to stay informed about our information practices and the ways you can help protect your privacy.

Information You Provide Us: We collect information you provide directly to us. For example, we collect information when you sign up to receive emails, make a donation, become a fundraiser, participate in any interactive features of the Site (including creating an account and submitting a request through our contact forms) or otherwise communicate with us. The types of information we may collect include your name, email address, postal address, phone number, fax number, credit card information and any other information you choose to provide.

Information We Collect From Other Sources: We may also obtain information from other sources and combine that with information we collect through our Site. For example, if you interact with the Site through a social media site, we may have access to certain information from that site, such as your name, account information and friends lists, in accordance with the authorization procedures determined by such social media site.

We may use information about you for various purposes, including to:
  • Provide, maintain and improve our Site;
  • Send you technical notices, updates, security alerts and support and administrative messages;

  • Process and administer donations that you make to us;

ArewaUSA is based in the U.S. By accessing or using the Site or otherwise providing information to us, you are aware that your personal data will be processed in the U.S and in limited circumstances, in other countries in which the ArewaUSA operates.

IV. Sharing of Information:

We may share information about you as follows or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:
  • With partners, vendors, consultants and other service providers who need access to such information to carry out work on our behalf, for example, to help run our Site and IT systems, to undertake online marketing and to send emails on our behalf, and to facilitate online payments (e.g. PayPal);
  • In response to a request for information if we believe disclosure is in accordance with any applicable law, regulation or legal process, or as otherwise required by any applicable law, rule or regulation;
  • If we believe your actions are inconsistent with the spirit or language of our user agreements or policies, or to protect the rights, property and safety of ArewaUSA or others;
  • In connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of organizational assets, financing or acquisition of all or a portion of our organization to another entity; and
  • With your consent or at your direction, including if we notify you through our Site that the information you provide will be shared in a particular manner and you provide such information.

In no instance will ArewaUSA rent, sell or exchange (for any reasons other than those listed above) your data with other organizations.
Social Sharing Features: The Site may offer social sharing features and other integrated tools (such as the Facebook “Like” button), which let you share actions you take on our Site with other media, and vice versa. The use of such features enables the sharing of information with your friends or the public, depending on the settings you establish with the entity that provides the social sharing feature. ArewaUSA takes reasonable measures to help protect information about you from loss, theft, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction.
Please be aware that despite our best efforts, no data security measures can 100% guarantee security. We encourage you to review the privacy statements of websites you choose to link to from the Site so that you can understand how those sites collect, use and share your information. ArewaUSA is not responsible for the privacy statements or other content on sites outside of the Site.

VI. Your Choices

Your Information: You may ask us to update, correct or delete information about you at any time by emailing us with your request at contactus@arewausa.org, but note that we may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate purposes related to our organization. 
We may also retain cached or archived copies of information about you for a certain period of time.

VII. Donor Bill of Rights

ArewaUSA strongly believes in the rights of donors and subscribes to the Donor Bill of Rights. This statement of rights was developed by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and the Giving Institute: Leading Consultants to Non-Profits.
“Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the nonprofit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:
  1. To be informed of the organization’s mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes;
  2. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization’s governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities;
  3. To have access to the organization’s most recent financial statements;
  4. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given;
  5. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition;
  6. To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law; 
  7. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature; 
  8. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors; 
  9. To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share; and 
  10. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.”
